“The Watchers of the North”
Above the slumbering earth, three sentinels keep vigil—
etched in light upon the velvet dome.
Ursa Major, the mother bear, lumbers eternal through the stars,
her great ladle pouring truth across the dark.
She is the compass, the guide,
leading wanderers home when all roads are hidden.
She teaches that strength can be gentle,
and that love often takes the long, circling path.
Draco, the coiled one, winds between the poles—
a guardian of mystery, a relic of war in heaven.
His sinuous form speaks of ancient battles,
between pride and protection, fear and flame.
He reminds us that even the fiercest dragons
are not always foes—but gatekeepers to what we treasure most.
And there sits Cassiopeia, queen of regret,
her throne tipped sideways in the sky.
Once vain and radiant, now humbled by divine law.
She glows not to flaunt her beauty,
but to reflect on it—offering wisdom born of misjudgment.
She is the mirror in the heavens,
where we glimpse ourselves in our rise and our fall.
Together they tell the tale:
of guidance found in the wild,
of power twisted and reclaimed,
of beauty tempered by grace.
They are the Watchers of the North—
whispering that the path to heaven
is not without storms,
but the stars never move…
only we must learn to follow.
This creation was inspired by a photo I took tonight from Norther Nevada, shown below.
