📣 Justice Update: Baby Oliver’s Case
Dear Supporters,
Thank you for standing with us in the pursuit of justice for Baby Oliver. This update provides verified background on how he entered the child welfare system, a timeline of major events, and a clear explanation of the concerns we’ve raised. I share this to seek transparency, accountability, and reform where it is most needed.
🧸 Who is Baby Oliver?
“Baby Oliver” is a pseudonym we use to protect the identity of a child placed in our care after being rescued from a deeply abusive environment. His story is a sobering example of how children can fall through the cracks, even after intervention.
In May 2024, Storey County Sheriff’s deputies in Gold Hill, Nevada, conducted a welfare check that led to the discovery of a child locked in a small room with no access to food, water, or a bathroom. The child appeared malnourished, in distress, and unable to walk or stand without assistance.
Two women were arrested and charged with child abuse and false imprisonment. This case received coverage in several Nevada news outlets. Following the rescue, the child was immediately removed from the home and placed under the jurisdiction of Nevada’s Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS), which assumed responsibility for his safety and care.
🏛️ Why Nevada Is Involved
Because the abuse occurred in Storey County, Nevada, the state’s DCFS became responsible for overseeing the case. This included placing the child in foster care, managing medical and legal services, and handling all placement and court proceedings.
In October 2024, Baby Oliver was placed in our licensed foster home. What followed raised serious concerns, not only about his past trauma, but about how the system responded after his rescue.
🕰️ Timeline of Key Events
May 2024: Child is discovered in abusive confinement in Gold Hill, NV. Two women are arrested and charged. Nevada DCFS assumes custody and oversight of the case.
October 2024: Baby Oliver is placed in our care as licensed foster parents.
November 2024: Before his first pediatric appointment, we raise concerns about past physical trauma. The assigned caseworker instead focuses on medication adjustments and does not authorize a physical exam.
November–December 2024: We continue to document concerning signs and advocate for medical intervention, but no further action is taken.
January 10, 2025: Baby Oliver is abruptly removed from our care. We received only a few days’ notice and no allegations to justify the removal. No explanation was provided at the time.
February–May 2025: We seek answers. Our attempts to secure independent legal guidance to protect the child’s interests are diverted—in one case, routed directly to the very attorney we had flagged as conflicted.
🚨 Ongoing Concerns
Medical Neglect Risks: Despite surviving severe abuse, Oliver did not receive all the needed medical evaluations after entering care, potentially missing opportunities to heal or document past harm.
Opaque Decision-Making: No explanation was provided for his removal until 100 days after the fact. The justification appears to have been compiled after the removal, and some of the supporting information may have been incomplete or affected.
Conflicted Legal Representation: While the child was assigned an attorney, our concerns about the attorney’s responsiveness and potential conflicts of interest were dismissed. When we tried to advocate, our inquiry was rerouted back to the same person, raising serious ethical questions.
Barriers to Caregiver Advocacy: As caregivers, we had no means to access legal support on behalf of the child, and our efforts were met with suspicion rather than collaboration.
🙏 Our Commitment to Justice
We continue to advocate for:
Comprehensive medical evaluations for all children entering foster care, especially those with known histories of abuse.
Transparent placement decisions and written justification for removals from stable homes.
Accountability and safeguards in legal representation of children, ensuring independent, conflict-free advocacy and fair treatment of foster parents raising valid concerns.
Stronger protections for caregivers who speak up to protect vulnerable children.
We remain committed to seeking answers, not only for our family, but for Baby Oliver and every child who depends on the system to do better.
